Preparing to Celebrate, Part One

It occured to me the other day, that I had not yet showed you a picture of my husband’s finished tile job, and the new stove! You got enough before and during pictures, so I owed you this one!

A new, larger stove = more warmth this winter, and less frozen pipes (hopefully!) And the tile looks soooo good, and is easier to keep nice looking than carpet!

On top of the stove I have orange slices drying. This is something I do every year before Christmas. I use the dried slices either whole or sliced in half, in wreaths, or stung on raffia as ornaments for the tree, or a warm, glowing garland in the window. The oranges are such a festive, bright accent, while still being natural.
And so starts a series on the holiday preparations at my house. I like to be prepared for the holidays so I can be free to enjoy them, and flexable enough to be spontaneous, instead of tied down to my to-do list. Believe it or not, I’m already half way through my shopping list! I have been preparing all year. But in the final weeks before the Holiday Season my preparations become a little more visible. I will be sharing gift wrap techniques, gift ideas, and some of our family’s favorite traditions. Be sure to join in to the discussion and share what makes your holiday celebrations unique!

Never in my memory had I lived without a wood burning stove until I got married. Our apartment does have a fireplace, but it looks more appropriate for burning candles than any sort of real fire. We'll see though….

Looks great. You are just going to love that new hearth area.

Sadly, we are somewhat burned out after 14 yrs of trying to completely finish our house. ๐Ÿ˜›

The tile looks sooo good, nice work Jeremy.

I was kind of wondering if we would ever get to see the finished product, and I was beginning to thing that Jeremy was very slow at laying tile :o)

I'm glad you got it done, and I can almost smell the dried oranges through my laptop!

The tile looks good! As for those oranges, how can you let them just sit there and dry? If I had oranges just sitting out in the open like that, every time I walked by I would be grabbing a few slices to eat.
