If it seems a bit quiet on the blog, it’s ’cause we’re out on the lake and you can’t hear us yelling from where you are!
We’ve gone into summertime mode – making the most out of the few weeks out of the year that the lakes are actually warm enough to swim in – Whoop! We’ve really enjoyed boating as a family this month (many thanks to my brother-in-law who got the family’s fixer-upper boat running for the first time in two years!) At least once a week (and three times during the last heat wave) we pack up a simple dinner and head to the lake as soon as Jeremy gets off work.(Lots of quick meals and packable dinners in the lunch section of my book)
We like boating ’cause we can wear whatever we want to be comfortable (even mismatched flip flops!). This week I’m enjoying my new bathing suit (post about making your own bathing suit is simmering, simmering…)
Jeremy and I both had lots of water and lake memories in our childhood, so we are savoring the opportunity to pass a love of water on to our kids. Jesse and Claire have both been brave enough to get in the tube, and jump off the back of the boat to swim in the middle of the lake – not a small thing when you are jumping into 400-600 foot deep water. Even some grown ups quake at the thought. I still have to block my mind to all that water beneath me, especially after reading Unbroken!
Seth is very at home on the water, too.
We just love the boat. ๐
I saw on your facebook page you were harvesting your garlic. I don't do facebook, so I am leaving a comment here about the garlic. I would love to hear your tips. I wanted to plant garlic last fall, but after a very difficult childbirth and recovery period. I didn't get to. I really want to get it in this fall. Can't wait to read your post on garlic.
anonymous – thanks, and enjoy!!
Savoringtoday – we visited lake of the ozarks several years ago. LOVED how warm the water was! ๐
Looks like fun!=)
Cute post! We had the pleasure of jumping in the Lake of the Ozarks back in early June–such fun! BTW-my daughters were mismatched socks ON PURPOSE and not just at the lake (where they wear no socks), they are 15 and 20 and I have just learned to let-go ๐ HA! Love it!
What wonderful memories you're helping your kids make! Good for you for taking time out to really enjoy being together!
The nice thing about being in our late 20s before we met and married was that we both had a LOT of disposable income when we were single, and had a lot of time to buy toys. ๐ When we married we owned(free and clear, no debt on them), between us, an 8-seater boat, a jet ski, a 4-wheeler, and a camper. So summers here are great fun! We try to get out on the boat whenever possible, and we've found that Josh adores it. In a year or two we hope to put him out on the tube, but till then he enjoys floating in the warm lake water.
Looks like fun! ๐ And I just bought a copy of your book!
Looks like so much fun! We had a boat about a year ago and we LOVED it. We had to sell it because there just are not any lakes close enough to put it in AND… it just was not big enough for all of the family to come with us!:) Soo… Ray wants to get another boat sometime. Just not now.:)Rays parents had a really nice pontoon boat that we all LOVED! But again it just was to big to put in the puddles they call lakes around here! ๐
