Orange slices have always been one of my favorite Christmas decorations.
Jesse loved helping me place the fresh slices on the drying rack – next week we’ll string them and hang them in the windows to make solar powered light garlands.
many of the slices were licked before going on the tray
When we finished we split an orange for a mid-afternoon treat. (oh, and don’tcha love his shirt? “Save Water Drink Juice” LOL)
Thanks Trina… I am definitely going to be trying this out! I especially love your idea of using these for gift wrap. How pretty that would be!
Have a nice evening, dear☺
When I was little we would sting popcorn and cranberries. Even without butter and seasoning, a lot more popcorn was eaten then strung! 🙂
I can't figure out why we don't get shirts like Jesse's, most of the “sayings” shirts in my size are either stupid or rude. Guess I have to make my own!!! 🙂
Sure, you could do this without a dehydrator! It just takes a little longer – but I have never had anything mold. Just set your screens or racks in the warmest, driest place in your house – mine are in the laundry room where warm air from the basement comes up.
I have done all kinds of things with the orange slices – I hang them on the tree every year, Persuaded! you can also glue them into a Christmas wreath, or on top of a present, nestled in among a bow and maybe some cinnamon sticks. Ah, yes, cinnamon sticks are the perfect accompaniment to orange slices…
What a great idea! These dried orange slices would make wonderful tree decorations as well… and I'm with Karen, I can almost smell those oranges. mmmmmm…..
May I ask something? Do you have a food drier? Or are you just drying the slices on plain racks? I don't have a drier, but I'd love to try this out. Just wondering if it is possible without the drying machine.
I have never thought of doing that with oranges! It sounds fun…might have to try that!
And I do like Jesse's shirt… 🙂
Looks like such a fun food project for Jessie . I can almost smell the wonderful oranges !
