“No need to vacation in Alabama!” Was the newswoman’s cheerful commentary on the heat wave we enjoyed in Upstate New York this week. Little did she know how ironic her comment was to me.
‘Cause I’m moving to Alabama for the summer.
This month my in-laws will close on a mobile home park in Alabama. Next week Jeremy and I and the kids will head down to begin to give the park some much needed renovations and TLC. We will live in the bus and I’ll be parked in an Alabama trailer park for the summer.
And I can’t tell you how excited I am. Explaining that will be a whole ‘nother post.
Meanwhile, I just needed to pause from my packing and list making and–gulp–stressing, to check in with you all and give you a heads up. We’ll be leaving in about a week, and I won’t know till I get down there whether I’ll have internet at the park. I do plan on getting a lot of writing done this summer, and hope to at least post once a week from my sweet {mobile} home Alabama. But if you don’t hear from me, do not fret yourself:
I’m in good hands. I’m with my favorite people in the world–Jeremy, and our kids, in one of my favorite places–my home on the road, the family bus. And whether I have internet or not, I’ll be thinking of you all lots, and promise to peck away at the many stories I’ve begun on this blog and I vow to post as I’m able.
(here’s a video tour of the bus in case you’re curious)
If this comes as a surprise to you, you’re not alone. It’s happened rather fast, and I’ve only just begun to wrap my mind around this adventure myself. Just to clarify–our relocation to Alabama is only temporary. We are NOT moving to Alabama long term. Just for the summer to help get the park up and running.
And, if by chance, any of my readers live in sweet Alabama, you can be sure I’d love to meet you face to face!
Have you ever been to Alabama? I never have! Any hints on making the most of our summer there?
I have never been to Alabama, but I”m really excited to hear about your coming adventure ๐ ๐ Hopefully you can find a good cafe with free internet access if you need it ๐ I’ll be praying for a safe trip and a great time there, too ๐ Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather ๐
What a fabulous adventure Trina!!! Stephen and I are officially thrilled for (& a bit jealous of) you guys. ๐ Enjoy every minute. Don’t let the stress and unfamiliarity cloud the experience. Relish it! Can’t wait to hear updates, but will miss seeing you this summer. We’ll have to plan a get-together when you’re back home. Happy trails!
P.S. My kitchen/bathroom floor is the bus’ bathroom wall. ๐
How will you prepare nourishing meals as you rough it this summer???
OH, Lois – I have all kinds of plans! ๐ There is a kitchen on the bus. I will continue to post photos of what we’re eating on my real {fast} food facebook page ’cause I can do that from my phone even when I don’t have internet. Here’s the link…http://www.facebook.com/RealFastFood
Have fun, girl! My boys loved your bus tour! Don’t forget to take your oils!!!!! You might need Purification for the bugs and lavender for night time . . . burns . . . etc. And you can use valor for . . . oh the list goes on!
my dear, they are already packed! First I’m taking them camping this week, then they get a special home on the bus. We used the oils yesterday when my son fell against my griddle while helping me fry pancakes. Awesome.
We’re in Alabama ๐ Sounds like y’all would about an hour from our place (give or take). I’ve love to meet you for real.
Natalie! I thought of you but didn’t know you were back in Alabama! Yeah! We’ll be in touch! (Do you know where I can get raw milk down there?)
What a sweet adventure awaits you! Loved the bus tour!!!
Ironically, we will be driving down to Florida on July 1st and then to Alabama on the 10th to spend a week with my in-laws!!! They are in Athens just outside of Huntsville.
So, crazy thought- maybe I could meet you in Alabama?!!!
I wish you all the best on this journey and I am excited for you!
that would be hilarious–two yankees meeting up in Alabama. We’ll keep in touch, I would love it! I think we will be within an hour or two of huntsville?
Looks like a wonderful adventure and the bus looks like such fun!!
It is. ๐
Can’t wait to hear more about this! The van is INCREDIBLE. I am seriously impressed!
So, I don’t know exactly where you’ll be in AL, but somewhere along ” my” section of the AL/TN (3-4 ish hours away, I think, from where I live) are some self guided little caves. I’m not a huge fan of squeezing in small spaces, but I did it and actually it was kinda fun. I’ve spent a little time in AL but not enough to know much. Oh, except that i like AL peaches better than GA. ๐
I’m just curious about what’s going to happen to your garden lol
Good question, Jess! I actually had a new neighbor over this morning – she just got married last month and doesn’t have a garden in, yet she is ex-amish and I knew she’d appreciate it. I walked her out to my precious little plot and told her it was all hers while I’m out of town. ๐ I’m gonna miss it, but at least it won’t go to waste.
Trina!
Where in Alabama?
We live just over the TN/AL border in middle Tennessee.
What a fun way to spend your summer!
We’ll be in North-East Alabama! Email me, we could maybe meet!
Ooh, how exciting! I’d love to go on an adventure like that! I hope it is a wonderful time for you all! I look forward to hearing all about it.
Oh never mind…it’s Atlanta Georgia, not Alabama! it’s all south to me!
ROTFL I’m the same way! I had to ask Jeremy what states we would drive through to get to Alabama. Snort. I’m totally gonna be on the look-out for Alabama bloggers, though! Thanks for the help.
You should check with Jenny from Zach’s Gang. I believe she lives down there. http://zachsgang.blogspot.com/
I shall go visit there anyway – we’ll be less than 2 hours from Atlanta.
