We did a Christmas Craft this week. I had seen these lovely, sparkly birds in Martha Stewart last year, but with a newborn, I didn’t have a chance to make any. I still had the cinnamon I bought in bulk so we made them together during Claire’s naps this week. I didn’t have the old magazine, but found complete instructions here.
The dough, a simple cinnamon, applesauce, and glue combo, was really easy to work with and kid friendly – it didn’t dry out and patched easily. Oh, and smelled wonderful!
I admit that I put a movie on for the Boy while I did most of this, but I did let him paint the glue and pour the sprinkles on his own little cardinal.
And so, between the Spool Birds I made last year, a few random birds, and the new flock this year, we achieved our goal of a bird themed tree.
the total count is 18! I love that I was able to pull this off, seeing as our little Boy loves birds so much. I love that we’re carrying the them with some of his gifts, too! 🙂
I really like the glitter effect – the tree sparkles even when the lights aren’t on (which, we admit, is not very often!)
Trina that boy is just too cute!
(The ornaments are beautiful too, lol!)
Love the way they turned out…my favorite ones are the “joy” ones! So beautiful!
I still have a few ornaments we made with cinnamon dough years ago. Ours weren't glittery, though. Your tree looks lovely — I like the bird theme.
Hi Trina,
I remember making those baked ornaments with the kids when they were young, those are such sweet smells and sweet memories.
