When we visited New England last month, I was extremely delighted (to the point that my husband looked at me funny) to find we were there during lupine season, and they were blooming wild along the roadside! I felt like Miss Rumphius might be just around the next bend in the twisty-turny mountain road…
My love of lupines grew from a well-loved, dog eared paperback edition of Barbara Cooney’s “Miss Rumphius”. Now, this post is not a book review – because I don’t want to spoil the climax of this delightful little tale – I just want to whet your appetite with these photos so you go to your library and find this book and read it to your favorite little child real soon (ha – I sound like one of the children who did book reviews on Reading Rainbow. Enjoy the flashbacks, all you 80’s children! LOL)
I'm from the 90's I love that book!
Oh, the mathematics show – yes! And 321 Contact! I have a friend who has episodes taped. We have to get together and have an 80's party…LOL
Yes! We have lupines blooming now and I love it. One of my favorite flowers.
I've never read the book, but it definitely looks appealing.
And the Reading Rainbow reference cracked me up. We only had an old tv with rabbit ears growing up so my only television was PBS.. Reading Rainbow was the extent of my tv watching experience as a child. That and some mathematics show that I can never remember the name of..
We have a wild lupine in our yard that I'm just adoring this year (it's big now!) – it makes such a lovely cut flower, too!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE lupines. Must go check out the book.
I have never read this book, but from the picture on the cover I think I would enjoy it!!
I read that book so many times when I was little! Good memories.
