For the Birds

Our house warming gift from a dear friend (you know who you are!!!) was a whole big box full of bird feeding accessories. Feeders, suet, seed, chain to hang feeder, window hanger for feeder, etc. Each was individually wrapped for maximum enjoyment for the 3 year old who lives at our house and has always loved birds.

On a lovely, October day last week we hung the feeders – all within view of his seat at the breakfast table. As soon as we hung this one he stood back and waited, as if he expected the birds to come immediately.
I had time to go all the way into the house and come out again to take pictures and he was still waiting.

Patience is a virtue.

“Where are they, Mom?”

Finally he gave up and began playing peekaboo around the tree…

I love this little boy.
Jesse Lincoln, Bird Watcher.

Update: this morning, just 6 days after hanging the feeders, Jesse spotted our first visitor. We were eating breakfast and he cried, “Mom! Lil’ bird!!!”
The bird was too quick and cautious for us to identify, but I’m sure we’ll see him again!

We enjoy our birdfeeder too.. except for the fact that whenever a bird is spotted, Vivi yells in excitement and bangs on the window to say hello.. I'm shocked that the birds ever come back for a second course.

I'm with Jesse… birdwatching is one of my life's greatest pleasures. The birds may be slow in coming, but once the winter hits there will be many many visitors for him to enjoy. ANother thought.. if you have any medium-ish bodoes of water nearby, you may want to make a habit of stopping by from time to time. This time of year you will see an absolutely amazing variety of migrating waterfowl. They are usually large, colorful and relatively easy to identify which makes it especially fun for the younger set;)

    Enjoy!

I have to say – when I first hung my feeders I was doing the same thing – constantly watching and waiting and wondering where the birds were…just not as close lol!

Glad your birds are showing up quickly for Jesse's sake 🙂
