I come before you, my faithful blog readers, with a request. As we work to plan my sister-in-law’s wedding for next month, we have come upon a problem, and you, my friends, just may be able to provide the solution.
Joanna’s desire at her wedding reception is that it should be FUN – she wants it to be a celebration, not just people standing around eating pretzels, if you know what I mean. She has asked us to put on our thinking caps to come up with ways to add some fun into that time so that the guests enjoy themselves, and the whole feel is one of celebration.
We feel slightly limited as, due to space and other restrictions, we will be unable to have any dancing other than the traditional Father-Daughter, Bride-Groom dances. We have been scratching our heads trying to come up with other ideas, with only minimal success.
This is where you, our readers, come in. We would love for you to share any fun or creative wedding reception ideas with us to consider using for Joanna’s wedding. Things that encourage group participitation, give laughs, or make memories. Have you been to a wedding that was a blast? What made it unique? What’s the most fun wedding reception you attended, and what made it so?
I am also looking for fun, creative game ideas for her shower next weekend – I want some activities that go beyond the corny shower games we all have endured at otherwise lovely showers.
In exchange for your help, I promise to post some sneak previews into the preparations we have made so far – previously unpublished photos of behind-the-scenes wedding details for your viewing pleasure! Leave your comment ASAP – the sooner I get a good idea or two, the faster I’ll post those photos!
Thanks for your help.
Hannah and Dan’s wedding photos coming later today…
A couple wedding ideas came to mind…neither of them being original! ๐ One…you might get some ideas from this couple’s story: http://girltalk.blogs.com/girltalk/2005/10/story_on_video.html (I hope the video still works!)>>Some friends of mine had a trivia contest at their reception. The groom’s brother was Emcee, and gave questions at intervals during the reception about the bride and groom. Whoever got the most answers right won a fabulous prize at the end of the reception. (I think they gave away a 2BG iPod or something…I wasn’t actually at the wedding, and only heard about it.) Anyway, it was something fun and competitive that kept the older kids and teenagers involved (who might otherwise have been exceptionally bored).
Hey Trina! I have never been to a wedding that did this, but it sounded really fun. Give your guest an index card and have them while they wait to write a poem for the Bride and Groom. You can give them a start by having the top of the card read something like Amanda and Joe were wed today. Just an idea!
Well, I think personally that you should play pin the tail on the donkey. Just kidding!
Hi, Susan! Thanks for stopping by! These are such creative ideas!
I attended a wedding where they had legos on each table. People made various things as they waited for the bride and groom to finish pictures. Then, they announced a contest to use them to build something for the bride and groom to use in their new home. People came to the stage and explained their creations. The wedding party held up scores. In the end, they gave out silly prizes, like fake teeth and oversized sunglasses, to winners of various categories.>susan (Curtiss’ cousin)
I was at a wedding a couple weeks ago where you could buy $1 raffle tickets at the reception in order to win random items used in the wedding. For example, as the bride and groom were about to exchange rings and the appropriate mood music was played by violin & flute, an unexpected remote-controlled helicopter came down from the balcony. The helicopter delivered their rings and was later part of the raffle. ๐
Hey, everyone! Your ideas were so cool, I have deleted them for now ’cause I don’t want to give away what we have planned for the shower next weekend! >>Keep posting if you have more ideas – you guys are great!
