Settling In

Actually brought to you by Trina, Olivia is notorious for not signing out.
I’m back! It’s a good feeling to know I can get online whenever I want again! But I learned from my ‘fast’ – once again my goal is to maintain control over my computer time, not have the computer control me!

It’s about time I showed you some pictures of my kitchen, don’t you think? I love it so much – especially the way the morning sun shines in…

We put “Oak” laminate on the floor – it’s what we had in the other place. I love how smooth it is and easy to clean. And Jesse likes it for crawling!

In many ways, this is my dream kitchen. The bar is just what I’ve always wanted, and the space above the cupboards is ideal for displaying my delft china collection. I have wanted to have a delft-themed kitchen since I got married, but didn’t quite achieve it in the last place. Here, though, I have let it inspire me throughout, and I’m quite pleased with the result. Add to that the lovely light fixtures my husband installed, and I couldn’t be happier! Here is the view when you come in the front door and turn to the right….

And this (on the left) is the wall to the right of the table…my appliance counter, and the grain mill is neighbor to the fridge. See the two side cupboards up top? Those were originally stained glass window/ mirror panes, but they were smashed. I am going to put little shirred curtains in the doors that will match the valances over the windows.

Anja installed the blinds one day last week when she was over. They are ideal for maintaining some privacy and still letting all that lovely light in.

Last night Jeremy brought my box of delft from storage – I had so much fun setting all the pieces in place! It made the kitchen feel complete, though I still have a few more things to do…

I have my eye on some blue and white tiole fabric at walmart for the curtains – it actually has small windmills in the print. Very appropriate. I can hardly wait to get the curtains up and see the whole effect. I also plan on hanging a few delft plates on the walls, together with this little cross stitch that Aunt Marilyn gave me 15 years ago – see? I still treasure it, and it goes so well with my delft!

So, there you go! All of the above images are clickable, if you want a closer look. I realize I didn’t quite get every angle, but I think you get the impression! ๐Ÿ™‚ Of course, I will post more pics when I get the curtains done. What do you think?

    Hi Trina, Jeremy and Jesse,
Your new home is wonderful for you. I love the blue kitchen, and the delft. I also love seeing a gift from so many years ago, thanks for the kind words.
    Have fun getting settled.
    Love to you

I collect all things blue and white – I don't have much in the Delft specifically. If I ever have my own kitchen, I would like it to be blue and white. It's very cheerul ๐Ÿ™‚

Loving the glimpses into your home, and the kitchen is no exception! It is so much fun to have a theme.

I am looking forward to seeing the toile curtains to finish it all off, that fabric sounds just perfect :o)
