I slept through the night last night! No, this is not Jesse speaking – this is his momma, who, somewhere along the path to motherhood, lost the ability to sleep through the night. I’ve only done it a few times since first becoming pregnant with Jesse. My child sleeps better than I do. But last night I didn’t wake once. Let’s not diminish my triumph too much by mentioning that I didn’t fall asleep until midnight, and I woke at 5. That’s a pretty short night, but it still gave me the feeling of having slept deeply and soundly, as I don’t usually get a stretch that long on a normal night. Hey, all you helpful readers with the great ground beef recipes – got any tips on drugging mamma? ๐
So, I’m starting my day with a good night’s sleep behind me, and – get this – a green smoothie. Sound odd? Well, it sort of is, but reading the book “Green for Life” I became convinced that this would be a great addition to my routine. The basic premise of the book is the benefits of more fresh greens into our diet and that smoothies are the easiest and tastiest way to do this.

Today’s list is packed – food prep and housecleaning for a busy weekend – Friday is the highly anticipated yearly Dance recital that all of my sisters, one brother, and lots of my friends participate in. Saturday Jeremy has a square dance to call that’s 1 1/2 hours away. And to top off the weekend, my cousin Corrie is flying in to visit us! I am really excited, but better go get to work, empowered by my green smoothie and good night’s sleep!
Yes, Martha, we’ve had that happen too…I’m not sure what it is in there that goes bad so fast, but it’s rather annoying! If it didn’t get slimy so fast, it’s nice to mix with the romaine for variety. Maybe it’s the spinach? Since it’s a little moister it gets slimy? I don’t know…too bad. ๐
Cheers for Green Smoothies and the book, Greens for Life. >>I just had a banana, kale, cinnamon smoothie and I feel so great. >>I wrote on my blog the other day about making them into Green Smoothie Popsicles for some summertime fun (and kids like them, too).>>Cheers,>Kristen
Yes, Natalie! We were buying the organic spring mix (something like that) from Costco, and I liked it a lot better. The only problem is, there is one type of lettuce in there that seems to get bad and slimy really fast and that ruins everything else. ๐ Have you ever bought that kind and have it happen?
Oof, Olivia, I agree that green smoothies certainly <>sound<> awful! I’d more happily eat a salad every day! >>Sorry Trina…I’m not being very encouraging am I? *grins sheepishly*>>And those romaine heads from Costco are great, aren’t they Martha? Lettuce in the grocery store is SO expensive!
Martha, you are an inspiration to us all.
Really Olivia? I love green smoothies, and eat them all the time. So yummy, and I love drinking down the greens instead of salads (or in addition to salads). This week Joel and I (mostly I) have eaten 6 heads of romaine! More variety would be nice, but when they come that many (and they are so cheap!) in a package at Costco you can’t complain.
Ug!!! The green smoothie is the bane of my existence right now!!!!!>Mom is trying to make us all drink it three times a day!!! Agggg!!!!
