Let me introduce to you my new friend, Julia.
Julia arrived Christmas Day, a gift from my wonderful husband. It took 5 years for me to get to the point where I could appreciate a gift like this. Having learned to cook in a kitchen without modern conveniences, I considered many kitchen tools, including a kitchen aid, to be superfluous and sinfully luxurious. But now that I am doing more food prep than ever, with all the stuff I make from scratch, and I have my hands full with all the other responsibilities of a household of 4-soon-to-be-5 – I was finally at a place where I could really use a helping hand.
So, along came Julia…with allllll the attachments. And I used every one in just the first week!
I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you how wonderful she is. Most of you are probably thinking, “She didn’t have a mixer for 5 years???! How did she do anything????” Honestly, I have no idea. (Yes I do – lots of arm power!) I seriously feel like my husband bought me a maid for Christmas – that I now have a second pair of hand in the kitchen. Well, make that a third pair of hands, because we all know that The Boy is my number one helper.
Which brings me to my favorite thing about Julia…She’s great with kids! I love how, now that I use Julia to mix, beat, press (pasta), grind, grate, stir, and puree, my hands are a little more free to assist Jesse in being involved in the kitchen. Now, instead of me kneading the dough by hand and trying to keep him from spilling too much flour on the counter while we work, Julia kneads, while I help Jesse measure more flour into her ample bowl. (Did I mention Jeremy got me the super-sized version of Julia? Sheis big and proud of it!)
With three on the job, every thing goes much smoother, and some things can be almost entirely delegated to Jesse and Julia – do you find that unbelievable? Just watch this video of them grating a 5 Lb. chunk of cheese for me while I was doing 15 other things…

what a pretty lady. I recently acquired attachments for my girl, still haven't gotten around to using any of them! First up will probably be the pasta doohickey, because I simply cannot roll dough that thin, even with a marble rolling pin.
you'll fall in love all over again come hunting season (if your husband is into that and manages to snag anything).
Julia looks like a great help!! But not quite as good as The Boy!:)
Hurrah for kitchen aid! Such a lovely gift. I must admit that I don't use mine that much right now -possibly a function of not having room to leave it out on the counter.
Julia is BEAUTIFUL!!!! Julia's little sister has resided in my kitchen for about five years, and I L.O.V.E. her and cannot imagine life in the kitchen without her. Period. 🙂
