On the scale of 1 to 10, today’s about a 7, so I’m grateful.
(What is she talking about???)
The challenge in this pregnancy has been keeping my back and hips in adjustment – you know how all your ligaments and muscles get looser in pregnancy? (O.K. – maybe you don’t – it’s due to hormones and prepares your body to give birth – sorry if that’s TMI) Well, I noticed that a little bit with Jesse, but with this baby it’s been crazy. ๐ I started going to a wonderful chiropractor about two months ago, and that has helped. But even though I go weekly, I often don’t ‘keep’ my adjustment much after pulling out of her driveway, so I have had some pretty uncomfortable days.
This week has been especially challenging – if a little twinge when I bend wrong or a bit of an ache in my hips when I walk is a 5 on the discomfort scale, I have gotten up to a 9 at least twice in the past few days. This has required me to once again reassess my priorities and what I will try to accomplish in a day.
My normally lengthy Monday to-do list was boiled down to:
1. make and eat breakfast
2. change my son’s diaper
That last one nearly did me in – I almost couldn’t get back off the floor! That was when I called my mother. Somehow I got myself to her house and spent the day on her couch, with aunties taking care of the Boy.
Tuesday I was no better, so Mom actually came and made me breakfast, cleaned up my kitchen, and left Bub at my house all day to give me a hand with the Boy. Wow, was that nice. And fun – we watched a movie together, and Judah tidied the whole living room and Jesse’s room without me asking. By the end of the day, my muscles had relaxed enough that I actually heated up dinner on my own. But once again, when I went to take a warm, soaking bath before bed, I couldn’t get out of the tub by myself without excrutiating pain. Then I made the mistake of sitting down on Jesse’s bedroom floor to put his P.J.’s on at bedtime, and had to lay there flat on my back until Jeremy got out of his shower and I could call him for help getting off the floor! At least at this point I was able to laugh about it.
So, today I am functioning at about a 7. If I don’t move, I feel fine. ๐ If I must move, it’s very, very carefully, and I do not – repeat, DO NOT bend over or sit on the floor!
Plus, Anneke and Judah are coming to keep me company today while Anja and Olivia go shopping with Mom. So, it’s gonna be a good day. ๐
